Atlantic Stage News and New Season

Atlantic Stage—New Season, New Schedule!

By Joan Leotta

Although we still have to wait a few months, Atlantic Stage will be starting it’s fall-winter season with a classic you do not want to miss—Waiting for Godot. It’s an experience any and every theater lover will want to see. This year, Godot will not only usher in the new season, but will also be the first of their productions to show for three weeks instead of the four that were usual over the past few years.

Mindy Penn, Artistic Director, says, “We will offer three weeks (for each show) instead of four weeks in order to accomplish three things.” They are hoping to increase audience size for each performance, decrease the royalty fees they pay for each show, and give cast and crew a longer rest break between shows. For patrons, this makes early ticket purchase more important, since shows in their small, black box arena will be even more sought after for each night. Parking is not an issue since the theater is located inside the Myrtle Beach Mall at : Myrtle Beach Mall

10177 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572. Call (877) 287-8587 to inquire about the discount available for season (and partial season) ticket purchase. They offer a flex pass—just as the name implies, when the show opens, you can select your nights. Since the black box format means there is a slightly different configuration and number of seats for each show, this is a great option Penn says, “Within two weeks of the opening of each show, we will publish a seating chart and let you choose your seats. When you arrive, your seats will be marked with your name.”

This year’s season offers a great mix of classics, innovative first runs, comedy, drama, family fare (suitable for introducing young ones to the world of live theater) and shows dealing with more difficult subject matter.

For those planning ahead—here are the titles and run start and finish dates for the 2018-19 season. For more information on each play, check out the Atlantic Stage website, https://atlanticstage.wordpress.com
