Over 20 regional musical artists from the Carolinas will perform in an eclectic collection of venues. Add a Bebop Parade, Early Jazz and Late Night Jazz Restaurant Venues, the Dizzy Gillespie Scholarship Golf Tournament, a Birthday Party for Dizzy, kids’ art activities, Madonnari-Southern Style Chalk Competition, a Jazz Mass, a 5K run/walk and much more while you experience the joy of jazz from your head down to your toes! Dizzy Jazz Composition Competition
South Carolina Jazz Festival and ColaJazz are calling for your original jazz composition to celebrate the centennial year of Dizzy Gillespie’s birth! The winner will receive a $400 cash prize and have their work performed live at the Grand Finale Concert on Saturday, Oct 21! Visit the ColaJazz website for more details.

Historic Cheraw Cell Phone Tour
Free self-guided tour leads to over 25 points of interest, including Dizzy Gillespie Park, the Gillespie’s home church, and the school Dizzy attended. Tour brochures available at the Lyceum, Market Hall and the Chamber office.

Also in the group are Teddy Burg – flute and sax, Brian Miller – sax, Jack Krupicka – on piano, and Doug Irving – bass)

8:20 – 9:20 THE NICKI PARROTT TRIO bringing us their “road show”! Nicki, Rossano Sportiello and Eddie Metz will be coming off a tour of the South where they will have
been featuring songs from their cds. Individually these musicians are some of our favorites — together they will be sensational!

9:20 – 9:35 Intermission

9:35 – 9:50 ROSSANO SPORTIELLO – solo piano

9:55 – 10:30 As usual, for the Styles of Jazz evening, we will end with a set of a style that our event is best known for – The Traditional Jazz Jam, led by ADRIAN CUNNINGHAM, will feature some of our NCJF All-Stars.

Tim Fischer Quartet

Tim Fischer Quartet @ CCU Edwards Recital Hall

Tim Fischer, CCU assistant professor of music, and Matthew White, CCU associate professor of music, present an evening of original music and jazz standards, accompanied by Charleston-based musicians Brett Belanger on double bass and Adam Ray on drums.

Fischer is a jazz guitarist, composer and educator who has performed across the United States as well as in Europe. He holds a D.M.A. in studio/jazz guitar with a minor in Musicology from the University of Southern California. As a trumpeter, composer and educator, White teaches trumpet lessons, directs the CCU Jazz Ensemble and Combo 1, and manages the Wheelwright Recording Studio; he holds degrees from the University of North Florida and the University of Miami.

Belanger earned his B.A. in jazz performance and theory at the College of Charleston and plays professionally around the Southeast. Ray is also a graduate of College of Charleston, having earned a B.S. in economics and a B.A. in music performance. He has performed at the Charleston Jazz Festival, the Folly Beach Jazz Festival, and with many professional big bands in the Charleston region.
