Local photographer Brant Barrett hits the road to highlight the Grand Strand’s food scene in unexpected ways not always observed by the millions of tourists who come annually for the area’s pristine beaches. With well over 1,800 restaurants (Huffington Post cited us as one of the U.S.’s top 15 “restaurant-crazy cities” a few years back), the Strand’s food scene may seem obvious, but a deeper look uncovers the alternative food venues familiar chiefly to locals, like church gatherings, family reunions, mom-and-pop cafes, produce stands, farmers’ markets, country stores, backwoods bars and signature food festivals. Barrett’s lens will reveal definitive images that speak to our sense of taste, as well as our sense of place.
