Theatre of the Republic: Hello Dolly

Lauren Hyatt Reviews Hello Dolly at TOR

You’re Looking Swell, Dolly

By: Lauren Hyatt

With wit and sass wrapped in a bow, comes Ms. Dolly Levi meddling around. For the best matchmaker in New York, finding a wife for widower should be no problem. But when you want to be that wife, you must first make that man fall in love with you. So as the best matchmaker in New York, you sabotage the entire process. With the help from your deceased husband, you will make this work; it has to.

But it wouldn’t be a proper comedy if shenanigans aren’t ensued. With two young men that are tired of being locked up in Yonkers and desire adventure, head out for a day full of it. New York City has everything; adventure, food, and pretty ladies to fall in love with. So how can a day of hooky not work out in the New York City? Our patience is tested while we see these two gentlemen enjoy dinner with two lovely ladies along with a slapstick performance by a group of waiters.

Hello, Dolly! is such a well known musical, if it be from that you know it from Broadway or from the movie. Dolly is sassy and knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go out there and get it. Dolly helps people; not just fall in love, but she has a card for everything! She’s the lady that every man wishes they had on their arm and every lady wants to befriend. Hello, Dolly! is showing at Theatre of the Republic August 17-20, 24-27 at 7:30pm and August 21 and 28 at 3pm. Please support your local theatre companies.
