Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre to Present the Comedy Ballet: Coppélia
Friday, March 31 – CYBT Arts-Outreach Performance: FREE to Students from Area Schools
Saturday, April 1 – Public Performance: FREE to Children from 13 years and under

A special story book ballet production is being put together and rehearsed by Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre’s artistic directors, dancers, production staff and volunteers. The charming comedy ballet “Coppélia” is Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre’s offering for the Grand Strand community this coming spring.

Coppélia” is considered as one of the greatest comic ballets of the 19th Century and has remained as a favorite among the best-loved classical works in the ballet repertory. It features the music composed by the Russian composer, Leo Delibes. The original choreography is by Arthur Michel Saint-Léon with the restaging and additional choreography by CYBT’s Artistic Co-Directors Liza Mata and Karen Mata.

Audience members will be transported to a small European village and will witness a delightful tale of romance between two villagers, Franz and Swanilda (who becomes threatened when Franz becomes infatuated with the beautiful Coppélia). When the eccentric workings of the mad toy maker, Dr. Coppelius, threatens the budding romance between the two, mayhem ensues.

Two performances are scheduled as follows: The CYBT Arts-Outreach performance for area schools, slated on Friday, March 31st and a public performance on Saturday, April 1st at the Christ United Methodist Church Auditorium on Fantasy Way, Myrtle Beach.

What’s exciting about this year’s Spring CYBT Arts-Outreach performance is that it is absolutely FREE to students and teachers from area schools (Grades 1 – 12). The only cost to them is the transportation expense to the theater.

This FREE performance is being made possible under CYBT’s Arts-Outreach Program with the generous support of the following: Coastal Dance Centre, Christ United Methodist Church, The Sun News, iHeart Radio, Visibility and Conversions, Hadwin White – Buick GMC Subaru, Coastal Carolina Ear Nose & Throat, Shield Water Proofing, McNair Law Firm, Conway Medical Center and Coastal Carolina National Bank.

For the public performance on April 1st, children, ages 3-13 years, will be granted FREE admission but must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre’s enchanting and whimsical storybook ballet production of “Coppélia” promises to be a special treat for the whole family and delight audiences of all ages!
