Fly-by-Night Dance Theater presents “Retrospective,” an evening of repertory that showcases movement, storytelling and expression through aerial dance. Performances partner low-flying trapeze and harnesses with elements of modern dance, acrobatics and ballet.
The selected works span the history of the New York City-based company’s 17 years, with each exploring a distinct territory of emotion, including regret, inspiration and loss. Artistic director Julie Ludwick designed the program as a series of excerpts from the company’s full-length, multidisciplinary productions. Experience “Apollo and Dafne” with music by George Frideric Handel, in which Dafne luxuriates while bathing in the woods alone, only to discover she is being watched by Apollo; “She Comes Flying” with commissioned music by Ken Peirson, in which a dancer enters a timeless, eerie dream-world where a drowned woman is resurrected; and “Passages,” featuring three young sisters who are confronted by a
