CCU Theatre: Violet

With music by Jeanine Tesori and story and lyrics by Brian Crawley, Violet tells the story of a young woman who travels across the Deep South in 1964 toward a miracle: the healing touch of a TV evangelist who will transform her scarred face and make her beautiful. As she discovers the true meaning of beauty, she meets a young soldier whose love reaches far past her physical “imperfections.” Nominated for a Tony Award in 2014 and based on the short story The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts, Violet features show-stopping anthems grounded in the American roots of folk, bluegrass and gospel. Adam Pelty, assistant professor of theatre, directs and choreographs the production.
